The Story Behind Road Trip Across Canada

Planning a family trip across Canada can be overwhelming, especially when you’re the one doing all the planning and trying to make it work for everyone.

I started RoadTripAcrossCanada.ca because planning family trips in Canada felt way harder than it should be. Every time I searched on the Internet, I found rushed itineraries, trips clearly designed for couples, or advice that just didn’t work once kids were involved.

I’m Emilie, your road trip planning bestie

I’m also the travel writer and photographer behind Road Trip Across Canada

Born and raised in Quebec (yup, I’m a proud French-Canadian), I married an anglophone, and together we’ve lived in Canada, the USA, and France.

Taking a biking pause on the Okanagan Rail Trail

Most travel content focused on long hikes, packed schedules, or ticking off highlights as fast as possible. That was never how we travelled as a family. I wanted to do things differently by:

  • creating family-tested itineraries,
  • promoting lesser-known destinations and attractions, and
  • sharing honest advice that actually works when you’re travelling with kids.

This website exists to help families spend less time planning and more time enjoying the road. As a family travel expert and a total road trip lover, I focus on helping women and moms, who are often the family planners, plan stress-free and fun road trips across Canada.

Why Trust Me?

I’m not just a blogger, I’m a born and raised Canadian who’s actually driven across the country multiple times (including one wild trip solo with my two kids). I’ve even taken the legendary train ride from Toronto to Vancouver.

On top of that, I work as a travel writer and content creator for destinations across Canada, which means the places I recommend are ones I’ve actually visited with my family. Real stories, real experiences — no generic lists here.

Everything I share is based on real trips I’ve taken with my two boys. I’ve driven across Canada multiple times, planned long road trips, short getaways, and everything in between. I test routes, stops, and itineraries myself before sharing them here.

What I’m Known For

I’m known for making road trip planning feel simple, even for big trips across Canada.

Families often tell me that I’m especially good at taking a long, overwhelming route and turning it into a plan that actually makes sense for them. I focus on

🚗 realistic driving days,

🌎 meaningful stops, and

💰places that fit their budget, travel style, and wish list.

Instead of sending families to overcrowded tourist stops, I look for lesser-known places that still offer beautiful scenery, fun experiences, and breathing room. I care about saving families time, kilometres, and energy, especially when kids are involved.

I also take the time to understand what families really want from their trip. Not just where they want to go, but how they want to feel along the way. Calm. Excited. Not rushed.

  • Call Emilie! Honestly, the best money I have spent on my road trip from B.C. to Ontario.

It is a little daunting to plan a trip of this length, but Emilie made it easy by getting a sense of what our needs were and then suggesting stops along the way that would fit our itinerary, budget and wish list. She saved me hours of driving to see overcrowded touristy stops and suggested lesser-known stops that offered what we were looking for, but also saved us time and kilometres. Don’t hesitate… call her!

My Values

The values that guide everything I do are simple, and they come directly from how my own family travels.

1. Slow, realistic travel

I believe family trips should feel enjoyable, not exhausting. I plan trips with shorter driving days, flexible schedules, and time to just be together. I would rather suggest fewer stops done well than pack too much into one trip.

2. Family-first planning

Every itinerary I create is designed with kids in mind. That means practical stops, easy walks, places to move and play, and days that still work when plans change. I plan trips the same way I plan for my own family.

3. Honest, tested advice

I only share places and routes I have personally experienced or carefully researched through real family travel. I do not believe in generic lists or hype. If something is not worth the stop with kids, I say it.

These values help families decide if my style of travel planning is the right fit for them.

What Matters to Me

🌍 Sustainability: I love encouraging slow travel, supporting local, and choosing eco-friendly options when possible.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family Connection: I believe travel isn’t just about the places you visit, but the moments you create together.

🚗 Adventure for All: You don’t need a huge budget or perfect plans — you just need a sense of adventure and a willingness to hit the road.

How to Work With Me

Why I Started This Website

Born and raised in Quebec (yup, I’m a proud French-Canadian), I married an anglophone, and together we’ve lived in Canada, the USA, and France.

In 2020, we sold almost everything to travel the world — but life had other plans 🤒. With just a few belongings left and a car fully packed, we hit the road and drove across Canada for the very first time. What started as a temporary trip turned into a life-changing adventure, as we ended up settling in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies (where we still live today!).

That cross-country journey made me realize how much I wanted to help other families experience Canada — without the overwhelming task of planning everything from scratch. And so, RoadTripAcrossCanada.ca was born.
